Photography workshop designed by Wendy for all ages and levels and so far have been successfully run with groups of young adults (16- 20 year olds)
Workshop participants are tasked with creating a photographic self portrait, taking a known portrait painting as a starting point. Participants are asked to consider the symbolism in the portrait painting and contemplate aspects of their own personal identity – such as gender, sex, race, or ethnic background and consider how it relates to the portraits they are looking at. The painting serves as a visual aid for participants to assist them in focusing on the creation of their own photographic self-portrait.
These workshops encourage students to explore their own personal stories and feelings and the project allows them to express themselves in a way that goes beyond words. This allows them to explore themselves in a way that they may have never been able to do before.
The workshops and project enable young adults to engage with their self-confidence, self-awareness and communication in a unique way, allowing them to make a powerful visual statement that goes beyond “the selfie”
