Dagmara Rudkin and Wendy Pye collaborated with poet Maria Jastrzebska, composer Peter Copley, and theatre director Mark Hewitt on a six-month, Polish-led cross-arts project, Snow Q, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen.
The project reimagined this symbolic tale to explore contemporary themes of loneliness, social isolation, mental health, gender, sexuality, migration, and exile.
Their collaboration culminated in a pilot site-specific installation performance event in The Basement of the Regency Town House, Brighton, on the Winter Solstice 2018, combining art, video, live music, and spoken word.
The Snow Q project also included funded art and creative writing workshops with groups from Young Carers and Older and Out charities. Their creations were featured in the resulting installation and performance piece.
Snow Q was supported by a research and development grant from Arts Council England.
