Joanna Callaghan who is an artist filmmaker and Professor of Filmmaking at the University of Sussex commissioned Dagmara to design and make costumes for a project entitled ‘Goodbye Breasts!’ featuring a group of dancers from Project Female
The project aims to open conversations about mastectomies and the effects on women’s lives. Supported by medical and academic partners, arts funders, charities and patient groups, the results of the project will include a documentary film to be released late 2023, an interactive installation and a series of short films including dancers performing inside of a giant inflatable breast.
Inspired by Joanna’s Giant Boob installation and 1960’s sci-fi movies, Dagmara created Boob Explorers’ costumes from deconstructed medical scrubs. The ‘space helmets’ are reminiscent of cold caps used by women during chemotherapy to minimise hair loss.
