The Story of Henny Penny

Dagmara is a skilled puppet maker, known for her expertise in crafting playful and captivating puppets from recycled textiles and found objects. Dagmara’s artistic interests are rooted in the realms of Fairy Tales, Mythology, and Folklore, which she incorporates into her puppetry projects and workshops.

The Story of Henny Penny is a collaborative project between Dagmara (director, producer, maker, designer & animator), Wendy (editor), composer Richard Morson and MA students and puppeteers from Brighton University.

This dark interpretation of an old English folk tale was a homage to traditional Eastern European puppet shows and stop motion animation. All puppets were made out of found objects that symbolised their flawed personalities such as obsession with celebrities, gambling and nonexistent fortune reading skills. The exhibition of puppets and screening of the animation at the Hove Museum was also accompanied by art activities designed to evoke visitors’ curiosity in the power of objects and materials to unfold the narrative in playful and imaginative ways.
