Home / Soul Films – Legacy Project

Soul Films are sensitively produced short films that remember and celebrate someone who has died or is nearing the end of life. Each film is linked to a QR code on a memorial plaque, placed in a meaningful public space to create a lasting legacy and an alternative memorial site.

Founded by filmmakers Sybil AhMane (Flexible Films) and Wendy in 2020, Soul Films began as a heartfelt tribute – a short documentary honouring their friends’ memories in meaningful places to them —and has evolved into a project exploring the connection between memory and place.

Each Soul Film is accessed via a personalised QR code engraved on a plaque and placed in a meaningful location—a memorial tree, park bench, or workplace—commemorating both the individual and their bond with that place. In doing so, Soul Films transform ordinary spaces into living memorials.

Through this experience, Sybil and Wendy also discovered that the filmmaking process itself offers a sensitive space for remembrance, bringing comfort and connection to those who grieve.

With support from an Arts Council project grant, Sybil and Wendy are developing ways to create Soul Films with individuals nearing the end of life, empowering people to share their stories and preserve their legacy.
